AR and AC

In this section we'll talk about Base Attack Rating (BAR) and how your total Attack Rating (AR) versus Armor Class (AC) to determine chance to hit. As well as showing how I use your BAR to determine how many attacks you have in a flurry (a flurry is basically succession hits, like Zeal in classic D2). These flurries happen anytime you use normal attack for melee or ranged weapons, most special moves sacrifice the flurry in favor of an added effect, such as Sunder lowering a targets AC.

AR vs AC

It's good to keep in mind everyone has a base of 10 AR, and 10 AC regardless of class or stat combination. A 10 vs 10 scenario gives a 50% hit chance, 100 vs 10 is 90%, and 200 vs 10 is 95%. So as you can see having a high AR is very useful, but having to much doesn't necessarily mean you'll always hit. The reverse is also true for Armor, that being 10 AR vs 100 AC comes out to a 10% hit chance (or 90% miss chance vs you if your the defender). Below you will see the formula used to determine hit chance.

100 x AR / (AR + AC)

Flurries

As stated above your BAR is used to determine how many attacks you get per flurry. Starting out you only have 1 Attack in a flurry but this eventually grows to 2, 3, ending at 4 attacks in a single flurry. Some classes have a slower BAR progression then others and thus will end up with less total attacks (and less hit chance) then some of the more martial oriented classes. Below ill list a chart to show the break points to get new attacks.

AR gained from stats such as strength, or feats do not contribute to your BAR total and thus will not grants you increased attacks in a flurry. Some spells however will either provide you with an extra attack (such as Haste gives 1 additional attack). It should be noted that the max level of Blackened is 40, your BAR stops progressing at 20, and instead you just gain normal AR as if it was from STR or any other normal source. Thus a 30 Fighter only has 4 base attacks.
