Ability Scores
In this section we'll be looking over ability scores, what each score is connected to, and the effect they have on combat. There are 4 ability scores - strength, dexterity, vitality and mentality. But before we get into that lets do a quick over-look at the basic common aspects that all ability scores share.
Basics
The basic concept of all abilities is that a score of 10 is neutral. That means a score of 10 = 0 modifier. A modifier is a basic score that everything all comes from. For instance a strength score of 12 has a modifier of 2. Each modifier is 1 damage and 1 attack bonus (for melee). So a modifier of 2 is +2 DMG and AR. Adversely a score below 10 has a negative impact on things. An ability score of 8 would be a -2 modifier for instance.
Strength
Strength is the main stat for melee combat. It governs damage done and attack rating which aids in getting past a targets defenses. For every strength modifier you gain 1 damage, and 1 attack bonus. The damage bonus is doubled while using 2-handed weapons.

Dexterity is the main stat for ranged combat, as well as avoid incoming attacks. It governs your attack bonus with ranged weapons (and some melee if you have finesse) as well as giving you a higher armor class.

Vitality is the main stat for surviving. It governs your max stamina, damage reduction and magic damage reduction. Damage Reduction, or DR, lowers all physical damage incoming by a static value, this can also be gained from shields. Magic Damage Reduction, or MDR, acts the same as DR but effects Magic, Fire, Lightning and Cold damage.

Mentality is the main stat for spell casting and spell like abilities. It governs mainly your max mana, mana regeneration, and improves your failure chance on casting spells.
